The Andrew J. Fontanella Library is an ever-growing media center. Complete with a small computer lab, digital catalog and internet access, the library serves all grades from kindergarten up to eighth grade. It is central to student research and provides numerous opportunities for students to continue a healthy reading habit. An on-site librarian provides weekly classes for all students and reaffirms lessons taught in the classrooms, such as bibliography structure and research techniques. Students can check out books on a weekly basis. If needed, students also have the capability to search the Cumberland County Library System for books or materials not found in the library here at S.P.S.. (For more information, see the links below.)
Beyond its basic functions, the library serves as meeting place for groups such as the Chess Club. Proctored by the Librarian, the Chess Club meets once a week and allows for students, grades 4 through 8, to learn the skills and strategies of the game. (For more information, see the links below.)
A Big Thank You!
On behalf of Mr. Fly and myself, I would like to thank all of you who visited and shopped our Back-to-School Scholastic Book Fair. Without your support, the book fair would not have happened. Thanks to you and your commitment to improving your child’s reading abilities. More than 60 books where added to individual class room libraries through the Teachers Wish List Program. I am also very pleased to report that more than $2300 in both books and cash were raised during the week for the Rev. Andrew J. Fontanella Library. These funds will be used to directly purchase new books and other new multimedia materials for the Rev. Andrew J. Fontanella Library for the use of the students of St. Patrick School.
God bless you and thank you again.
